Café is based on Symantec's C++ environment, but Café is a standalone product that does not require a C++ platform to run. Symantec calls it an integrated development and debugging environment (IDDE), but the added D doesn't make it different than most IDEs - the others usually include a debugger, too. Symantec Café, released in March 1996, is the first development environment that became widely available for Java programming after the JDK. His list of accomplishments is long, and his impact was large. NOTE 2: Mansour Safai led the development of Symantec Cafe, the first Java IDE.
